When I was shopping for a good web cam this Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 was not in my mind. I heard about it and I was told it’s one of the best in market but for me It’s too expensive. This cam used to be around $100 so not something ideal for guy who looking for low budget items and bargain deals.
I ordered used web came from e-bay for cheap but that was a bad idea.Cam was not working as it should be and seller was not accepting returns. Also I tried one of those e-bay Chinese web cams and that also didn’t work as I expected. Cam they was advertising 10 mega pixel resolution with HD video turn out to be a crappy web cam with bad video quality.
Even cheap web cams from reputed brands were not exactly made m happy. Lesson learned was when you see a company offer you a Web cam with unbelievable resolution with every feature you can think of bundled for price you can’t believe, Run for your life. If it’s not a well known brand and too good to be true it is too good be true. You can buy these and learn it hard way or just avoid these super fishy bargain offers.
But it doesn’t mean every bargain offer is fake. Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 is a good example for this. This HD Web Cam was around $100 but now you can buy it from Amazon $67 or less. It’s a best seller product where more than 2000 customers have left positive reviews.
There is one thing you need to remember, You have to goto Logitech site download the software for it. I didn’t receive a software cd along with the cam but it’s not a big deal.
Now things I like about Logitech C920 cam. You can do full HD 1080p widescreen video calls. Quality is unbelievable comparing with other web cams had. I guess price really makes a big difference. There is digital zoom which is great too. one zoom level for 1080p and 4 zoom levels for 720p. One super cool new feature is C920 do H. 264 compressions. If you don’t know what it is, H.264 is to save hig quality videos in smaller size files. It’s best known as codec for Blue-ray DVDs. Means you can upload these videos faster. It’s great for video call conferences too it can capture whole room and also sounds are super high quality for web cam. Also you can make 15 MP photos using this cam.
Now what I don’t like about it. Yes there are few things I wish it has but well you can’t expect everything. If you use Linux then forget about cam. It didn’t work when I tried. But both Mac and Windows supports it. Another problem is you can only tilt up and down not side to side like in old Logitech cam models like Logitech C615. But good news is you can attach this to a tripod so just buy a cheap Mini tripod along with it and you will be fine.
One other thing you have to think before buying this web cam is how good your computer is. This is an expensive high-end HD Video web cam. It won’t work properly in slow old computers. You need a upper Dual-core or better processor for best performance.
Now there is another thing you should know about these HD web cam. You are video calling in Skype with 1080p quality means it eats up big amount of bandwidth. So if you have a smaller internet package make sure to configure your cam to stream in less to save bandwidth. You can find more information about it in Amazon sales page.
